PCMCIA and Expresscard to.... Whatever

Navigation

PCMCIA is actually not even what the slot should technically be called, it's the name of the organization that created the format. It stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, and they call the card format: PC Card. Because of the immense difficulty in remembering even which letters make up this acronym (much less know what it stands for), many know this card format by its backronym: People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms.

PCMCIA cards (or PC Cards) were introduced in 1991 and was originally created as a way of expanding the computer's storage capabilities. Soon manufacturers were able engineer the port to give it the ability to interface with a large variety of different standards and protocols, giving us a really good reason to start a site dedicated to all the different applications possible.
